4th National Pre Hospital Care Championship 2022 General Information

National Pre Hospital Care Championship has been the flagship for pre hospital care teams to showcase their skills in the wilderness environment since 2017. Each team will show that they have the best knowledge, endurance, and speed to provide exceptional care for their patients in austere environment.

Date: 16th October 2022
Venue: White Resort Camp, Kampung Genting Dalam, 11000 Balik Pulau, Penang


Championship Category & Team Composition

  1. Advanced Care
    1. Open for all Malaysian professional health care providers (all PHCS responders from MOH Malaysia healthcare facilities including from private healthcare centers, students from allied health institution)
    2. Consist of a team leader and 3 team members (total of 4 persons per team)
    3. Each women participation in the team will contribute an additional 5% extra mark
    4. The top 2 teams will compete in international grand finale
  2. First Responder
    1. Open for all Malaysian first responders (e.g. Malaysian Red Crescent Society, St. John Ambulans Malaysia, Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM Malaysia), Emergency Medical Rescue Services Unit of Fire and Rescue Department Malaysia (EMRS Bomba), and other Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) ambulance service provider.
    2. Consist of a team leader and 3 team members (total of 4 persons per team)
    3. Each women participation in the team will contribute an additional 5% extra mark
  3. International Grand Finale
    1. Open for all professional health care providers outside Malaysia (e.g. paramedics, paramedicine professionals, allied healthcare providers working in EMS organization)
    2. Consist of a team leader and 3 team members (total of 4 persons per team)
    3. Each women participation in the team will contribute an additional 5% extra mark

Every team may bring additional team member as their reserve player. They shall register as supporter. Replacement will be allowed if the team member is having a medical condition that prevents him/her to continue to compete. There will be no refund for replacement of reserve team member.

Anyone else who wish to witness the championship live and give your support to your favorite team is welcomed to register as a supporter.


Registration

Registration fees: RM 400 per team (all categories)

  • Dormitory accommodation for 1 night at White Resort Camp
  • Dinner, breakfast and lunch
  • Transport to White Resort Camp and to KLCC after the championship (applies for international team and Malaysian team from Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan only)

Registration fees for supporters: RM 100 per person

  • Dormitory accommodation for 1 night at White Resort Camp
  • Dinner, breakfast and lunch
  • Transport to White Resort Camp and to KLCC after the championship (applies for international supporter and Malaysian supporter from Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan only)

Prerequisite

Every international team member is required to register for EMAS or EMS SEA as a prerequisite to join this championship.


Transport to Championship Venue

International Teams, International Supporters, Malaysian Team and Malaysian Supporter from Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan

Transport will be provided for international teams and international supporters from Kuala Lumpur International Airport / Penang International Airport to the venue on 15th October 2022. However, we do advise competing teams to enter Malaysia through Penang International Airport for the championship.

All other Malaysian Teams and Malaysian Supporters

Transport is at the expense of the participating teams and supporters. We have ample parking space in a designated parking area inside the camp. You may also use public bus as stated here.


Transport to EMAS 2022 & EMS SEA Venue after Championship

International Teams, International Supporters, Malaysian Team and Malaysian Supporter from Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan

Transport will be provided for international teams from Championship venue to KLCC on 16th October after the championship. We advise you to return to your home country via Kuala Lumpur International Airport after the conference.

All other Malaysian Teams and Malaysian Supporters

Transport is at the expense of the participating teams and supporters.


Accommodation

Accommodation is provided for all participants and supporters. You may check-in on 15th October 2022 from 2.00 pm till 11:59 pm.

Championship Rules

The championship runs in 2 rounds for Advanced Care category:

  • Round one: Elimination round to select 10 best teams.
  • Round two: Final round to determine the 3 winner teams.

The championship runs in 2 rounds for First Responder category as well:

  • Round one: Elimination round to select 5 best teams.
  • Round two: Final round to determine the 3 winner teams.

There is only one round for International Grand Finale category, where the best 2 teams from Advanced Care category will compete with all other international team to determine the final 2 best team.

Do expect the scenario getting more complicated and complex in round two and Grand Finale compared to round one.

The championship language is English, therefore all scenarios will be presented and communicated in English.


Dress Code

Teams are allowed to wear their uniform or suits that are comfortable and suitable for hot outdoor tropical environment. Please be ready for wet weather as the championship will go on, rain or shine.

What to Expect?

  • Practicing medicine in wilderness. Be prepared to test and challenge your clinical knowledge and skill in the natural untouched ecosystems of the tropical forest in Malaysia.
  • Get your fitness level tested. Check your endurance in the austere environment while maintaining your calm state of mind to provide the best EMS care for your patient.
  • Challenging terrain and unpredictable weather. Be ready to response in any kind of environment: river, slope, rain etc.

What to Bring?

  1. Personal protective equipment:
    1. Footwear (compulsory at all time during the competition. Any type of footwear is allowed. But recommended footwear are shoes designed for trekking through the rain forests.
    2. Headgear (optional)
    3. Eyes protector (optional)
    4. Hand protector (optional)
  2. Torch light (optional)
  3. Head lamp (optional)
  4. Trauma scissors (optional). Maximum one (1) pair of scissors per team.
  5. Knife/ Multitool, not longer than nine (9) centimeters in length (optional)
  6. One (1) rope of any kind, not longer than three (3) meters (optional)
  7. Personal medication(s) (optional)
  8. Mosquito repellent (optional)

What not to bring?

  1. Medical equipment, of any kind
  2. Machete
  3. Life jacket

What is Prohibited?

  1. Damaging the nature. Including cutting the leaves, branches, trees, natures in the environment
  2. Littering
  3. Hunting animals
  4. Using soap/ detergent in the river or pool

What is Provided?

  1. Your team will be allowed to choose the selected medical equipment prepared by the organizing committee to compete in this championship.
  2. Response bag
  3. Surgical gloves
  4. Surgical mask

Safety

  1. Our safety marshals are strategically stationed throughout the championship route.
  2. Under circumstances when the safety component is being compromised, the safety marshal has the authority to stop or eliminate the team immediately.
  3. All participants must adhere to Safety First principle throughout the competition.

Supporters

  1. Supporters are welcome.
  2. Supporters are not allowed to go beyond the cordoned perimeter of the competition during the championship.
  3. Supporters are fully responsible for their own safety.
